Nadia and Carol
Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej and is now Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born November 12, 1961. She was the first Romanian to receive a score of 10 in the Olympic event. Comaneci was first discovered by Bela Karolyi, later to be the Romanian gymnastics coach, when she was only six years old. The first time she competed at the national junior championships in 1969 and finished 13th. She took the title in 1970. Her first competition in the international arena was in 1972, which was a pre Olympic junior meet for the communist-bloc countries she won three gold medals as well as in 1973 and 1974 she was the junior all-around champion. At her first competition as a senior athlete in the year 1975, she bested the Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva who was a five-time European champion, winning four gold medals as well as one silver. She took home the American Cup in New York City in 1976 and became the first female to do backward double salto as a dismount from the bar that is uneven. Carol Wayne.........................Carol Wayne was an American film and TV actor best recognized for portraying Art Fern's Tea-Time Movie Lady on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. The journey into the world of entertainment began in her teens, when she began skating figure along with her twin sister Nina Wayne as part of the shows that traveled around that were known as Ice Capades. Carol Marie Wayne, born in Chicago Illinois US on 6 September 1942. Carol ventured into the world of entertainment during her teens. At the age of 13 she was a figure skater in the traveling show Ice Capades with her sister Nina Wayne. The shows featured theatrical ice-skating performance.
