April Lockhart

April Lockhart was born on July 4, 1995. When she was in the seventh grade, she started playing guitar and taking piano classes, which spurred her interest in the art of songwriting. The song that she first wrote for April was Different. She wrote it at the age of 12. At the age of 14 years old, April was spending a lot of time writing her lyrics, and perfecting her music skills. The songwriting began with her dad and her dad in NY and LA shortly after. April was the month that she began to write about other issues in Take My hand for those of her peers who struggled issues with bullying, disabilities and even suicide. Lockhart has her own following and is a lifestyle blogger at the popular Ilia Pure Beauty brand. Lockhart was born without a hand on her left side and it's part of who she is--but it's hardly her whole story. The profile of Lockhart on Instagram does not hide her disability but doesn't concentrate solely on her disability. What message is it sending? The message? That we can all be multifaceted and our physical and mental identities are not all that they appear. I don't want that to be the only thing that defines me. I don't want to become a person who is a disability-related influencer which is what I'm talking about since there are many other aspects to me Lockhart states in video form from her home in Nashville. This doesn't have any effect on my everyday life. I go about things normally, and I've discovered my own method of adjusting the things. But, it's an integral part of me and I feel it's important to talk about. Her journey to self-acceptance is a journey that's going to last a lifetime, but she is an inspiration in this regard. She admits that she's been through phases of her body, at times being unsure about wearing specific types of clothes which accentuated the arms of her. Today, she wears any outfit she chooses to and shares photos in those outfits to social networks with pride. Self-love, she says is a journey. It's hard to say if you'll ever reach the end. However, I believe that's the case with all people, regardless of what their fear is. It's essential to have those within your circle who understand and can relate to you. They'll help you remind yourself about the issues you're concerned about.
